California Fuel Cell Partnership Welcomes
Powertech Labs as a Member
Sacramento, Calif. – Powertech Labs has joined the California Fuel Cell Partnership as it’s 33rd member.
Powertech Labs is a subsidiary of BC Hydro, based in British Columbia, Canada, and a pioneer in hydrogen fuel cell technology. In 2002, Powertech Labs designed and engineered the first hydrogen fueling station in the world capable of fast filling hydrogen compressed to 700 bar (70 MPa). The greater the pressure, the more hydrogen that can be stored – increasing the range of travel for hydrogen-powered vehicles.
“Powertech shares CaFCP’s vision for a commercial hydrogen fuel cell vehicle industry,” said Richard Marchant, Powertech’s Chief Operating Officer. “We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with CaFCP members to create a hydrogen fueling infrastructure in California, using technology we have successfully applied in British Columbia.”
As a member of the California Fuel Cell Partnership, Powertech will collaborate with other members to design and construct 700 bar hydrogen fueling stations in California. Many automakers are already demonstrating that 700 bar fueling can allow vehicles to travel as far as 300 miles on a tank of fuel.
“Powertech’s expertise will augment CaFCP’s active role in advancing hydrogen fueling infrastructure,” said Catherine Dunwoody, Executive Director of CaFCP. “We look forward to working with Powertech to move California’s transportation systems to a cleaner, sustainable alternative using hydrogen and fuel cell vehicle technology.”
