Fuel Cell Vehicle Fleet Transports Inauguration Guests
Sacramento, Calif.— During Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s inauguration,
guests will arrive at events in zero-emission fuel cell vehicles powered by hydrogen.
Automotive makers DaimlerChrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota
and Volkswagen will provide a fleet of passenger vehicles. In addition, Oakland’s AC
Transit and San Jose’s Santa Clara VTA will provide transit buses powered by UTC
Power and Ballard Power Systems fuel cells. The vehicles will fuel at the hydrogen
station in West Sacramento jointly owned and operated by BP, Chevron and Shell.
All organizations are members of the California Fuel Cell Partnership.
California's commitment to clean air, energy efficiency and emerging technology has
played a major role in making this state home to the largest number of fuel cell
vehicles and hydrogen fueling stations in the world. California was the first state to
implement a Hydrogen Highway initiative, and now 37 US states have statewide or
regional initiatives.
“California has a vision of clean, safe and sustainable transportation that provides
better air quality and energy independence,” said Catherine Dunwoody, CaFCP’s
executive director. “Demonstrating our members’ transportation technology during
the inauguration shows just how close we are to fulfilling that dream.”
CaFCP will also participate in the California’s Green Dream event at the Capitol on
Thursday, January 4. At the CaFCP booth, visitors can learn about fuel cells,
producing hydrogen and California’ Hydrogen Highway network. Fuel cell cars and
buses will be on display.
CaFCP is a collaboration of 31 organizations including auto manufacturers, energy
providers, government agencies, fuel cell technology companies and transit
authorities working together to promote the commercialization of fuel cell vehicles.
